Question by stanova2: rapid weight loss please help ?
first of all, I am a fairly intelligent woman who knows a lot about nutrition and exercise and is familiar with all the dangers of starving yourself etc. etc. my question is ( and please, I really know about slowing down your metabolism, depriving your body and all that): is there any way to loose weight super fast, given that you keep a strict regime for a month and only a month, take vitamins, exercises as much as you can. how low can you actually go in your calories if you do it for a short period of time? some people fast, does this actually work? you read all he time that when you starve yourself, your metabolism slows down and you stop losing weight, but anorectics (not that I aspire to be one :( (), they do lose weight, right? what I really would like to know, can I survive 2-4 weeks, eating only the minimum, drinking protein shakes, exercising and taking vitamins and lose an amount of weight that is worth doing this? Im talking about losing at least 10-15 pounds. has anybody tried to do it sensibly? has it worked? can this cause permanent damage to your bones or do other damage? thank you.

Most commercial diet programs are very low in calories. Many border on starvation: 1200 calories, 1000 calories, even 800 calories or less.

Ironically, the more you slash your calories, the more your metabolism slows down. In fact, very low calories diets can actually make you fatter. It is physiologically impossible to achieve ‘permanent’ fat loss by starving yourself.

When you eat less, your body burns less. When you eat more, your body burns more. It is the ultimate paradox.

Very low calorie diets not only slow your metabolism so you burn fewer calories, they can also cause muscle loss. Eventually, they shut down your metabolism completely. When this happens, the weight loss stops and any increase in calories that follows will cause immediate fat gain. This “rebound effect” is inevitable, because no one can stay on low calories forever.

Dieting is not effective in controlling weight. You can get a temporary weight loss with a diet, but each scheme ultimately gives way to weight gain, and subsequent losses become increasingly difficult. Worst of all, you get progressively fatter on less food. Dieting actually makes you fatter.

well with anorexia yeah your metabolism does slow down horribly but no matter how slow it is it still needs to be burning something
usually the “average” anorexic girl will eat 100-600 calories daily which is like an apple so yeah.
So even though the metabolism is slowed down to very slow pace the number of calories eaten still isnt anywhere close to enough to where it needs to be so the body immediately goes and burn muscle and then to fat and then when it gets to a certain point (i know you probably heard this) but it goes and begin to eat your organs.
So when you here people say about how you “gain” weight as an anorexic but it wouldnt be the case becuase you wouldnt be considered anorexic if you were gain weight
Its just a myth that people tell teenage girls thinking about going anorexic i guess
So yes if you restrict to the low of calories you will lose weight and you will NOT be healthy

On the other hand.
Anorexia is not an easy thing to achieve. if it was simple task then most women in America would already be anorexic
so if your planning on cutting below 1000 calories be ready becuase you will gain weight if you dont eat enough one day and overeat for the next week
You will have horrible mood swings
In some cases your hair does tend to fall out
and if you do lose 20-30 pounds in a short amount of time you will most likely have sagging skin.
even it its just 20 pounds and not 100 if your losing anything high than like 5 pounds in a rapid amount of time you skin will sag and you will be displeased

So take all of that into consideration and evaluate if you want to really go down that road.

OR

stay within the healthy calorie range exercise regularly(NOT overexercising) and losing weight ina healthy manner
you will 10 times better if you lost 10 pounds the healthy than f you lost 30 pounds from not eating enough and overexercising

Hope i helped.

I have taken weight loss pills that have had me lose 30 pounds in 45 days. I was really happy with the results at the time. But the weight always finds its way back(plus some). I also noticed mood swings and anxiety while taking them. I am now dieting and exercising on a regular basis and the weight has started to come of. I dont think there is any healthy way to lose weight quickly. I think tho to answer your question (which I dont recommend) after your body gets used to the low calorie in-take you will start to lose weight, but I do not think this will happen quickly.
