Question by totalstressor: Phentermine?
I know the Phen-Fen was bad several years ago, but I am taking the Phentermine only. Does anyone know exactly how it helps you. My appetite is decreased (which I really needed) but does it actually speed up your metabolism or is appetite suppressent the only benefit?

I don’t need anyone on a soapbox – I am aware of the risks…thank you.
You say I am foolish to take it, but smoking, alcohol – cause disease and addiction – and its legal people do it all day everyday. Driving while intoxicated, drugs, not eating, working 16 hour days consistently. These are not good for your health and can kill you as well, but people offer support groups and assistance even vacation.

Obesity is a big problem – I am 50 pounds overweight. I exercise 3 times a week (trying to make time for more) and watch what I eat…(I keep a food journal for my doctor) I am not losing weight. I needed extra help – its not forever just a little boost.

Lots of warnings!!!
• Phentermine is a sympathomimetic amine, which is similar to an amphetamine. It is also known as an “anorectic” or “anorexigenic” drug. Phentermine stimulates the central nervous system (nerves and brain), which increases your heart rate and blood pressure and decreases your appetite.
• Phentermine is used as a short-term supplement to diet and exercise in the treatment of obesity.

I also take Phentremine. I love it. I, too, am aware of the side effects. I am also aware of the side effects of being overweight.
That said, it does greatly suppress my appetite. It also gives me energy that I would not otherwise have. The best way to desribe it is, it makes you get up off your butt and do something! My house is cleaner than it’s ever been! Haha
I’ve lost 30 lbs. in about 2 months. You do have to exercise when you’re on it, though. If you don’t, you will gain all the weight back and more when you stop taking it. (Trust me, I’ve done it!)
But to me, it’s worth it. Just be careful and take breaks from it. Also, stay under your doctor’s care while taking it. Let them monitor you.
Happy New Year!

Phentermine was the okay half of phen-fen. The “fen” half was the dangerous half and it’s been taken off the market.
It doesn’t speed up metabolism. It suppresses the appetite and gives you more energy (so you can work out).
I’ve had excellent luck with it and in fact just started taking it again this weekend. I had very little re-gain of my weight over the 7 months since I took it (about 7 lbs)–keeping off more than 30.
Ignore the people who put you down. Do you what you need to do. If this works for you, and the side effects don’t bother you too much, go for it.

it does speed up your metabolism because it makes your heart speed up in the same way that exercise does, which is why people watch their heartrate when they run.
