The thing people don’t realize is that laser tattoo removal is basically controlled burning. They burn a few layers of your skin off each session with a high powered laser.
Personally, I’d deal with the tattoo or get it covered. Sometimes the scars from laster tattoo removal can be worse than the tattoo.

Also, remember that it takes alot of time to remove a tattoo, depending on the size and colour, it can take up to a year to remove, and costs thousands of dollars. You will also have to deal with a partially visible tattoo for a few months.

In the hands of a trained medical professional there should not be any more pain then getting a tattoo. Most people describe it like a rubber band snap feeling. Laser treatments are generally very quick. Small tattoos can be numbed with a needle and anesthesia and no pain is felt. Medium and larger tattoos can have numbing gels or creams applied before the laser treatment. Do a Google search for experienced laser experts in your city. Set up 3 or more consultations. Ask questions and voice your concerns about pain. Good luck hope this helped.
