Question by brooklyn terrell (:: Is Alli really dangerous for people under 18?
I am a 13 year old girl looking to lose a little bit of weight. Alli seems like something useful. I know the side effects and all, but it says for over 18. Is it really that dangerous for me to just take a few? If they’re not prescription drugs, they can’t be that bad. Right?

At your age you need fats to grow properly. There are reasons why this drug is only available from pharmacies for adults. If you want to lose a few pounds then eat a bit less and exercise a bit more.
Honestly, Alli in itself isn’t too great. It’s advertises it blocks some fat from being absorbed into the body. However, fat content in food does NOT result in body fat gain. Fat ((barring artificial trans fat)) is good – it helps the body feel full. Granted, you don’t want to consume anything in excess, but fat within itself is not something to be avoided.
Alli also relies heavily on a planned system and I can speak from experience – it is difficult to maintain a routine like that as a teenager. Furthermore, the routine is not designed for a teenager’s body still in the process of growing and it’s very possible that undertaking such a plan could have negative results on your growth in addition to Alli’s typical side-effects.
The best approach to losing weight ((especially if you just want to drop a couple pounds – it doesn’t sound as thought you’re obese)) is simply cutting down on sugars and focusing on moderation in addition to some healthy exercise. Believe me, it will work. ^^
Drugs like that aren’t designed for people who are still growing. Seriously bad idea. Plus, given you’re only 13, your weight is probably either in your head or something you have more than enough time to grow out of naturally, given a healthy diet and regular exercise which have NO harmful side effects.
You are just too young for it. Why don;t you try exercise instead. You will get better results and its more sustainable. The last thing you want to do is to start taking these drugs at such a young age. What will you do when you are older?
Alli has side effects. Look at this article as it may shed some light. It has a detailed explanation on Alli and other related drugs.
