Answer by welig
Orlistat is an anti obesity drug which inhibits pancreatic fat digesting enzyme called lipase, and thus reduces absorption of dietary fat. Some of the weight loss due to Orlistat probably results from individuals reducing their fat intake to avoid severe gastrointestinal effects including steatorrhea ( passage of frequent fatty stools). Fat soluble vitamins may not be properly absorbed and therefore patients taking Orlistat should take supplements of Vitamin D..
A trade name is Xenical and the dose is 120 mg. taken immediately before or during, or after each main meal up to a maximum of 360 mg daily.
Maximum period of treatment is 2 years.
