Getting to Sleep

When you don’t get enough sleep you can disrupt your metabolism. People who get four hours of sleep or less a night have more difficulty processing carbohydrates. When you’re exhausted, your body does not have energy to do its normal day-to-day functions, which includes burning calories, so your metabolism is automatically lowered due to lack of sleep.

Need good night’s sleep? There are several things you can do to make sure you get in seven to eight hours of sleep, including the REM sleep your body desperately needs. If you are caffeine sensitive, be sure you do not have caffeine after 2pm each day. Schedule your workouts earlier in the day; exercising within two to three hours of bedtime can keep you awake at night.

Try soaking in a hot bath, since studies show that warm water makes it easier to fall asleep. And if your mind is racing thinking of things you need to accomplish, money woes or relationship troubles, be sure to keep a journal. If you take the time to write things down before you lay down to sleep your mind will be clear and free you up for that much needed night’s rest.
