Question by charl203: can you take immodium or equiv whilst taking xenical/orlistat?
and if so will it help? i have recently started taking orlistat (only yesterday) but previously to that, was taking immodium quite frequently as I often have an urgent need to go to the loo. So, I’m terrified of the effects I will have from orlistat on top of this so was wondering if i can still take immodium?

Most likely, nothing too bad will happen, but it probably won’t help either and might make you even more uncomfortable. Imodium treats diarrhea by slowing GI motility, which slows the rate at which stuff moves through the system, allowing more water to be absorbed, making the stool more solid. Orlistat causes diarrhea because it prevents fat from being broken down and absorbed, and this acts more like a mechanical laxative (similarly to taking mineral oil). And because it stays in there longer, you may actually become more uncomfortable as a result. But, as a disclaimer, you shouldn’t treat this as medical advice, and you should consult with your doctor before taking them together.
